Gulf Gas Pump, Castolon
The blue and orange logo of the Gulf Oil Corporation stands atop an old gas pump in Castolon, Texas.
Once one of America’s largest companies of any description, not just oil, Gulf Oil merged with Standard Oil of California in 1985 and the new conglomerate was rebranded ‘Chevron’. This particular gas pump – the logo style suggest 1950s/60s vintage to me – stands beside a visitor center at Castolon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. (While Texas was where Gulf’s first oil was drilled, the company is staunchly and proudly Pittsburgh-based.)
