Bourbon Selection, Old Talbott Inn
Bourbon tasting at The Old Talbott Tavern in Bardstown, Kentucky, home to – among others – the Maker’s Mark distillery.
Line ‘em up! A selection of bourbons recommended for our tasting delight by the girls at the historic Old Talbott Tavern in Bardstown, Ky. As the Talbott opened for business in 1779, its claim to be the world’s oldest bourbon bar could very well be true. Past owners include one T.R. Beam (Jim’s brother) and past guests include Abraham Lincoln, Daniel Boone and Jesse James (the latter, legend has it, responsible for the still visible bullet holes in a number of paintings).
By the way, Knob Creek won my vote, just ahead of the Basil Hayden, Wild Turkey 101, Jim Beam White Label and Maker’s Mark, none of which were anything less than a wonderful digestif after a dinner of fried green tomatoes and southern fried chicken.
